g.org
...is, hmmm, mythical? Yeah,
sure, if you considered producer-oriented, studio-only concepts
like the Alan Parsons Project mythical.
g.org (pronounced "gee - dot - org") is the brainchild
of one Gary Guthrie and the concepts are usually jazz-based and
utilize a revolving set of musicians who fail forward fast, fleshing
out his ideas.
To
date, there are two g.org recordings -- "re: generation",
a jazzy cover set of slightly off-center classic rock tunes like
Black Sabbath's "Planet Caravan" and Fleetwood Mac's "Oh
Well"; and "A New Kind of Blue" which is a modernization
of the Miles Davis classic. The "re: generation" set was
produced over a five-year period after Gar' "graduated"
from being a radio consultant sold off his Clear Channel stock and
was able to coax the musicians to indulge him some time for his
ideas. Alternatively, "Blue" was done in five hours.
You can't buy "re: generation" yet but you're more
than welcome to hear
it. "A New Kind of Blue" will out in a signed/numbered
ltd. edition in early June.
